A research study, in its infant stage, has produced surprising results in women seeking chiropractic care, with reportedly increased fertility. It is still premature to conclude that chiropractic can be considered as a major infertility treatment but the science behind the art of spinal and muscles manipulation may be able to correct some reproductive disorders.
Chiropractic care aims to identify any vertebrae distortions which hinder the proper functioning of the nervous system to other parts of the body. The vertebrae of the spine are the body’s central network of nerves, connected to all other major organs in the body. Any alteration in the vertebrae leads to hormonal imbalance and disrupts the nerves’ message link to these organs, which then are not able to function accordingly. When the spinal alterations are corrected, the nerve system is able to function optimally. A more effective nervous system leads to a significant improvement in fertility.
In addition to a better functioning nervous system, chiropractic manipulations also help to correct any skeletal and muscular distortions in the body, correctly aligning the parts of the reproductive organs’ location. This is implicit in the knowledge of physiology as the spinal location is related to the location of reproductive organs.
These preliminary studies, with the central research by Dr. Madeline Behrendt, whose results were reported in the ‘Journal of of Vertebral Subluxation Research’ - May 2003 issue, remain inconclusive. This primary study aimed to be impartial with all various chiropractic techniques used to treat the women who had sought chiropractic care for other reasons besides infertility. While more research is being conducted to prove the link between infertility and chiropractic care, it does not hurt to seek chiropractic treatment for optimal health. This alternative remedy is substantially low cost than other medical treatments, non-invasive and can correct any other undetected disorders related to the nervous, skeletal or muscular systems.
